Drawing Lessons with Children’s Illustrators

Many artists and children's illustrators have provided posted resources to encourage children's creativity while at home.  Below I have a sampling of some of the many resources that are available for children and parents.  How to Draw ......  is a series of how-to-draw videos.  The artist, Rob, has his own kids and their friends draw along with him.       Tune in and see how drawing is made fun and easy.   Mo Willems is a children's author and illustrator of Don't Let the Pigeons Drive, Knuffle Bunny,  and many more.  He has created a series of videos teaching students how to draw in his Youtube channel " Lunch Doodles ." Wendy MacNaughton is an illustrator and graphic journalist based in San Francisco.   MacNaughton's #drawtogether classes include silly songs, deep breathing exercises, open-ended questions, and lots of time to relax and draw.  The recorded classes can be seen on Youtube  #Draw Together . This post is dedicated to fun math resources for students. Music rhythms are mathematical patterns.  When you hear a song and your body starts moving with it.   Your body is doing math.   The kids in their parent's garage practicing to be a band,  may not realize it but they're also practicing math.  -Kareen Abdul Jabbar  Hooda Math  is an online math site with math games for K-12.  This is a great site to reinforce math skills and to help with mastering others.   Fun Brain  has math and reading activities/games for elementary and middle school students.   Math Is Fun  is a site with fun math games for K-12.  The site does require Adobe Flash.  If your device can't run adobe you won't be able to use it.   Math Playground  is a fun way to work on math skills through games.   Multiplication.com  has games from  the Multiplication Grand Prix to the Knight and the Princess, students c

The Magic of Reading

Discover reading resources that will keep  your children  reading and learning  while away from school. Beanstack  is an online program that students can use to log the titles of the books that they have read.         Epic! for Kids is an online library with 35,000 available titles for K-6 readers though I have found older readers enjoy the titles also.  There are some read-aloud titles as well as videos on different subjects.  Some of the titles have short quizzes attached to them, but most are for pure enjoyment for reading.  Some grades have registered their students.  Here is the link to the login page:  Student login for Epic .    Teaching Books  is an online collection of children's books that is part of the Alabama Virtual Library and can be accessed through Clever .    Children's   eReading Room   is the public library's online library.   Children can access ebooks and audiobooks for download.  The students can access it with their librar
